It's not uncommon for new patients to feel nervous about their first visit to an oral surgeon. We aim to make your first visit as easy and informative as possible. This first appointment with Dr. Martin and Dr. Appelblatt is generally for a consultation where we review your case and develop a treatment plan.

Your Initial Consultation

Your consultation will consist of thoroughly reviewing your case and any existing medical conditions, followed by a meeting and exam with Dr. Martin or Dr. Appelblatt. During that meeting, they will discuss your diagnosis and treatment options with you and answer any questions you have about your course of treatment. After carefully reviewing your case, we will provide you with a customized treatment plan and schedule.

While surgery can sometimes be performed on the same day as your consultation, in most cases, we prefer to have it on another day so that you are completely informed and prepared for your procedure.

If you will be undergoing IV anesthesia for surgery, a preoperative consultation and physical examination are necessary before your surgery. If you are scheduled for IV sedation, please do not consume food or liquids for eight hours before your scheduled surgery. You must also arrange for someone to drive you home and, ideally, stay with you for several hours after surgery.

X-Rays

If your dentist or physician has taken recent x-rays, we will work with their office to forward them to our office. This can help reduce the need for us to take additional scans. Please note that even if you already had x-rays taken by your dentist or physician, we will sometimes need additional x-rays at our office.

What to Bring to Your Appointment

Please complete our patient registration and health history forms online to make your consultation as smooth as possible. If you need access to them through our website, please arrive at your appointment 15 minutes early so that you have adequate time to fill out the materials.

Please bring the following items:

  • Your surgical referral slip and x-rays, if applicable
  • A list of current medications
  • A list of any medical conditions
  • Any medical or dental insurance forms, ID cards, etc.

Please note: A parent or guardian must accompany all patients under the age of 18 during the first visit.
