Full Arch Tooth Replacement
Historically, the only treatment for patients without teeth was conventional removable dentures. However, these can be cumbersome, cause difficulty with eating, and lead to significant jawbone loss over time. In fact, patients who have been wearing dentures for many years often lose so much of their jawbone that they no longer have the support needed to hold their dentures in place!
Fortunately, there are several options for using dental implants to gain a better functioning set of teeth. Please read about the options below and call us at Tahoe Oral Surgery to schedule a consultation with Dr. Martin and Dr. Appelblatt.
Implant-Supported Overdentures
Implant-supported overdentures are dentures that use implants to help maintain them and provide them with more retention and strength. They are highly cost-effective as your current denture can often be modified to function with your new implants. For an implant-supported overdenture, the denture still must be removed at night, but since it has implants to clip onto, it fits and feels more secure than traditional dentures.
All-on-4® (Permanent Dentures)
If you desire something as much like natural teeth as possible, an All-on-4® technique may be for you. Titanium implants—usually four implants (hence the name)—are placed into the jaw. Once these integrate, a new set of teeth is securely attached to these implants. The new teeth then look and function just like natural teeth. They stay in your mouth permanently and are only removed by a dentist for maintenance. With an All-on-4 permanent denture, foods like apples, steak, and corn-on-the-cob are back on the menu!
Same-Day Dental Implants in South Lake Tahoe
Tahoe Oral Surgery can also use All-on-4 technology sometimes to provide teeth in the same visit the implants are placed! We can virtually model the implant placement and final restorations using state-of-the-art technology and CT scans to image the jaws before surgery three-dimensionally. These data are then used to fabricate both implant stents to guide perfect implant positioning and an entire arch of teeth immediately placed over the implants. This allows patients to leave the office with a fully functioning set of new teeth. Using CT-guided technology can significantly reduce patients' time in the dental chair.
Benefits of Full Arch Dental Implants
There are several benefits to full-arch dental implants, such as:
- Preserves Bone Structure — Full arch dental implants stimulate the jawbone, reducing the risk of bone loss often associated with traditional dentures and helps maintain your facial structure.
- Preserves Adjacent Teeth — Unlike traditional bridges, full arch dental implants don't require altering neighboring healthy teeth.
- Higher Success Rate — Dental implants have a proven high success rate, significantly higher than traditional dental bridges and dentures.
- Natural-looking — Full-arch dental implants closely replicate the look, feel, and function of natural teeth. They restore your smile, giving you the confidence to laugh, talk, and eat without worrying about your teeth's appearance or stability.
- Long-lasting: With proper care and oral hygiene, dental implants can last many years or, in some cases, a lifetime.
