To ensure a full recovery, pre- and post-operative meetings with your oral surgeon are important so we can best address your needs.
Here are some common tips.
Practice Proper Oral Hygiene
Maintaining proper oral hygiene is crucial to your recovery after dental implant surgery. Gently brush your teeth, cleaning the area around the implant site. Use an antimicrobial mouthwash to prevent infection and promote healing.
Rest and Avoid Strenuous Activity
Ensure you get plenty of rest post-surgery, as your body needs time to heal. Avoid strenuous activities or exercises for a few days following your surgery, as these can lead to unnecessary swelling or bleeding.
Eat a Healthy, Soft Diet
In the initial stages of recovery, it's best to stick to a diet of soft foods and plenty of liquids. Avoid hot foods and beverages and hard or crunchy foods that could damage the implant site.
Use a Cold Compress
To help manage swelling, use a cold compress on the cheek area adjacent to the implant site. Apply the cold compress at 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off.
Follow Up with Your Oral Surgeon
Ensure you attend all scheduled follow-up appointments so your oral surgeon or dentist can monitor your progress and address potential complications early. Regular checkups are essential to ensure the long-term success of your dental implant.
